Emerson Midway II CF929BS in Brushed Steel Review

This is an expensive fan -- at the high end of the range for ceiling fans of this type.But I liked the look and the fact that it uses an energy efficient fluorescent bulb.The fan ships direct from the factory, and the first fan I received was the wrong fan packed in the wrong box.Poor quality control at the Emerson factory.Still, these things happen, so I returned it and got a replacement about a week later.

The new unit was the right model, but still had several problems.A deformed housing is probably the biggest problem, causing the blades to be out of alignment, and causing a severe wobble -- especially at the higher speeds.

Problem 2 was that the "maple" blades advertised are actually ugly plastic blades with a fake wood pattern printed on them.Very cheap and disappointing.

The bulb is advertised as dimmable, but this isn't the case.It's pretty much on or off.There is the slightest change in brightness when holding the dimmer button, but it is almost impossible to even notice.Turning the light on and off sometimes requires a "double click" on the remote, other times, just one click.Confusing and hard to use.

Lastly, the remote is extremely problematic.The 20 foot advertised range is greatly overstated, as the remote only works from 3 - 5 feet away (you have to be directly under the fan for it to work).And even when standing right at the fan, the remote only works some of the time (and with a very noticable delay).

For the price (or at any price), this is an extremely low quality fan, with poor quality control from the factory.Best to avoid.

30 in. 2 speed Belt Drive Whole House Fan Review

I grew up with house fans, and this one worked just the way I remember it. Open a few windows, turn the fan on and... a lot of air gets sucked in the open windows. It's great on cool evenings after a hot day. Small children passing too close to the windows are liable to get sucked through when this thing is on. It's not too noisy either. It does make noise, but the belt drive system seems to help make it run quieter. I wouldn't instal it in the middle of the living room, but it's not loud enough to disturb you if you put it in a hallway. I will say that the shutters are a little cheap. But they work the way they are supposed to. They close when the fan is off, to what looks like a mostly air tight seal.

30" Direct Drive Wholehouse Fan Review

This direct drive whole house fan took the place of a belt drive and the new fan is very, very powerful.When there are those middle temp days when it is nice out, but the air in the house is still and warm, we pop this on and leave the A/C units off.It makes all the difference.In this instance, you have one motor going, and not drawing anything like an A/C compressor, and the whole house is cool.Great deal more efficient.

My fan came short on all pieces and with no instructions of any type. Going to CSN's website to see the specs proved fruitless because the link on CSN's site did not work. My contact to their email was ignored. Still, I had a good fan right? Wrong. Within two weeks it rattled louder than the 70's era fan it replaced. Well, it still worked right? Now, less than six months later, the fan has crapped out. Don't buy this unless you're looking to be aggravated and waste your money.I made these complaints before and my review was removed, so I'm back. It was that bad.

The AirFlow Breeze Home Heating/Cooling System (Almond) (Fits 4"W x 10"L opening) Review

The vent I was boosting is on the floor and I was hoping the AirFlow would work better than my Suncourt EQ2. I should have done a little more research online before buying. One website indicated that the AirFlow would boost 60% while the EQ2 boots 80%. My thinking was that two fans would be better than one. Unfortunately, that didn't turn out to be the case and the EQ2 does have more boosting capability.

However, the AirFlow works and the design is nice in that it fits into the vent instead of over the vent. My floor vent isn't in a high-traffic area so this feature wasn't a benefit since my EQ2 wasn't likely to be tripped over or kicked around. The flush design will work in a wall vent which is one advantage over the EQ2. The AirFlow and EQ2 generate about the same noise level.

36 in. Heavy Duty High Volume 2 Speed Belt Drive Whole House Fan Review

This is my same review as the 30" version of this fan, they are both identical except for the size of course.

One star off for the cheap louvers, however there are upgraded aluminum extruded avaliable for a few dollars more. Now this is not a whisper quiet fan, it is however much quieter then the unit The Home Depot sells. You will know this fan is running so avoid placement near family/living/bedrooms. This unit comes with a high and low switch in decora style and have found it to be of good quality. Other then a set or two of louvers that got damaged during shipping I've had zero problems with all the units I have installed, and knock on wood have not had to replace a single motor. I find the motor supplied with this fan should last 10-15 years depending on how much you run the fan. I would highly avoid DIYers attempting an installation unless you have a good concept of framing and electrical as you will need to remove a joist to install this fan, the only exception would be if you got a set of truss style louvers and had an additional attic access hole large enough to fit this fan. The packaging the louvers come with have a template to trace onto the ceiling so you know where to cut, my advice when cutting out the template is to cheat inward on the line about 1/8th of an inch so you don't accidentally cut the hole too big. IMO the louver template is just sightly too big. I also recommended a spring round 12 hr timer which can be ganged together with the high/low switch if you know what you are doing. Overall a fantastic product, I'll continue to buy this fan for years to come. For the money it can't be beat.

The fan itself is very good and what I was expecting.

The only draw back of this fan was that the installation insturctions are totally generic and do not apply specifically to this fan.Due to this the installation of the blades to the motor was time consuming to figure out as the generic instructions indicated to mount the blade on the bottom of the motor ring while in fact they have to be mounted to the top of the motor ring for this fan and since it is obcured by the attached light assembly it is not obvious to see this.

Westinghouse 7855600 Jewel Four-Light 52-Inch Five-Blade Ceiling Fan, White with Frosted Globes Review

This is the quietest fan I ever used.If I did not see it moving or if there was no breeze from it, I would not have known whether the fan was on. Fortunately, the fan works very well at three speeds (forward and reverse).I also like the fact that the four lights accomodate standard size bulbs.I was able to place standard size replacement fluorescent bulbs without any problems.I love the fact that I can place four 23 watt fluorescent bulbs that is as bright as four regular 100 watt bulbs.Practically all the fans sold at Home Depot or Lowe's nowdays will only accept the small candelabra bulbs because of some senseless government regulations. Installation was relatively easy, especially with a hook on the ceiling mount which allows you to hang the motor unit to it while you connect the electrical wires.The DRAWBACK is that it does not have a remote control(what do you expect for under $100?), which does not seem to matter if you are able to reach the pull chains (extension is included but I purposefully did not attach it because of our rambunctious kids).Overall, I found this product to be well made, and I ordered 4 more in addition to the original 2.
UPDATE - within a week of writing the review above, I received the shipment of the 4 more that I ordered.UNFORTUNATELY these four were not the same.They only accept candelabra size bulbs.I guess the previous 2 that I bought (that accepted the standard size bulbs) were the old model.I am going to have to shell out more money for the candelabra size(AKA "intermediate base") fluorescent bulbs, which are 1/4 to 1/3 as bright and 3-4 times more expensive (about $4 each, after searching the internet for the cheapest at 500 lumens) than the standard size (AKA "medium base") fluorescent bulbs.Even though I have to get 16 of these bulbs for the 4 fans, I find the quality of the fans to be well worth it.
FINAL UPDATE (I PROMISE) - I was browsing through the internet and found a site that inexpensively sells(for under $2) an adaptor that lets you use a standard size bulb on a caldelabra base outlet.I am going to use this instead of paying for expensive candelabra size fluorescent bulbs.Please send me an e-mail if interested.

44" Concept II Ceiling Fan in Brushed Nickel and Silver Review

I bought this ceiling fan because it has such a low ceiling clearance and we live in a 1947 cottage with relatively low ceilings. I absolutely love it! It doesn't wobble (which is amazing, considering nothing in our house is even, especially not the ceiling), it is super quiet and it brings modern elegance to our living room. It was soooo easy to put together! I am already checking out all (!) the other ceiling fans in our house to see whether we can replace them with that product...(we live in the Southeast, so we have a lot of them....). One of my best purchases for the house, ever.

52" Archive Original Ceiling Fan in Antique Pewter - Energy Star Review

The fan seems to be of excellent quality and was easy to install. The hanging bracket supplied had to be modified to work with the RACO Heavy Duty support I purchased specifically for this fan. The RACO box was listed as made for "Hunter Original Fans". The only problem I had was balacning the blades on the 2 fans I ordered. Very hard to do!!!!!!They were cheap pieces of plastic and flimsy veneer. Definately not worthy of this fan. I see it has been discontinued which is too bad. It seems that when something good is found some corporate big wig kills it. I can see why it has a lifetime warranty, with the oil bath bearing system the thing will probably not wear out. I would like to purchase 2 more in the next 2 years so hopefully they will be re-instated in the production.

Monte Carlo 5DT52WHD Discus II 52-Inch 5-Blade Semi-Flush Mount Ceiling Fan with Light Kit and Blades, White Review

I bought this fan because it (a) is a hugger fan, meaning it's not very tall, (b) is available in white--so it tends to blend in with the ceiling color, and (c) does not require you to use a remote control (I already had two wall switches for it and many of the remote control ones won't let you wire for use without the remote AND maintain full control).

SAFETY NOTE: There are two nuts on this fan, one at the top and the bottom.They are probably metric, about 19mm (or 7/8"), so they're pretty big and easy to find.First thing you want to is make sure both of these nuts are cranked down good and tight and the top nut retaining clip is in place.This is not in the instructions.Mine came from the factory LOOSE and when I turned the fan on, the bottom section (which contains the lamp) rotated--it shouldn't do that--causing the pull chain ornaments to rise up and catch in the blades and get ripped off and flung across the room.

No damage, not even to the fan, but you definitely don't want to go through that.

Otherwise, very happy with the fan, definitely does not overpower the room, which has 8' ceilings.

I bought off ebay for $153 (after ebay 10% off coupon when paying with PayPal) + $15 S/H.

We moved recently and took this fan with us.We were not able to re-use the shades, so I started looking for replacements... that was nearly impossible, since the fan requires a socket ring shade.I have found some, just none that I want to spend my money on.When I called Hunter to see if they had any adaptable shades, they said no, but they would send me free replacements.I received them several weeks ago, and yesterday, I noticed that one of the new ones is starting to dry-out and shrivel already.I may need to get smaller bulbs with less wattage.I am already using 40w ceiling fan bulbs...

I know this sounds like a lot of complaints for one ceiling fan, but the look of the fan makes this con well worth it for me.

Caribbean Gloss White Industrial Ceiling Fan 56" Review

I needed some sort of cooling in my shop/building and this fan fit my needs. It's cheap, white in color, moves a lot of air, and to boot comes with a lifetime warranty!

Installation was a breeze. Screw the "J" hook assembly to the electrical box, hook the rubber bushing thats on the down rod of the fan onto the "J" hook, wire it up and you're done! And the nice thing about how it installed was that the rubber bushing that sits on the J hood reduces vibrations and noise caused by the fan being on.

After I had it installed I really didn't like how low it was hanging down from the ceiling... again not a problem. I took it down, removed the down rod from the motor assembly (by removing two nuts and bolts), cut the down rod in half, put it all back together and it looks like it had always been that way.

The only complaint I have is that the speed control that comes with the fan is hideously ugly, huge, and beige. So instead of using it's speed control I bought the Hunter 27181 four speed slide control switch and it seems to be working great (all though I'm hesitant on the quality of the switch).

Great fan (for the price I paid), installed in a snap, looks good, moves air!

Pros:
Cheap.
Installed with NO issues whatsoever.
Modification to the down rod (to move the fan closer to the ceiling) was super easy.

Cons:
Quality seems good enough, though I'm always skeptical for as cheap as it is.
