Emerson Midway II CF929BS in Brushed Steel Review

This is an expensive fan -- at the high end of the range for ceiling fans of this type.But I liked the look and the fact that it uses an energy efficient fluorescent bulb.The fan ships direct from the factory, and the first fan I received was the wrong fan packed in the wrong box.Poor quality control at the Emerson factory.Still, these things happen, so I returned it and got a replacement about a week later.

The new unit was the right model, but still had several problems.A deformed housing is probably the biggest problem, causing the blades to be out of alignment, and causing a severe wobble -- especially at the higher speeds.

Problem 2 was that the "maple" blades advertised are actually ugly plastic blades with a fake wood pattern printed on them.Very cheap and disappointing.

The bulb is advertised as dimmable, but this isn't the case.It's pretty much on or off.There is the slightest change in brightness when holding the dimmer button, but it is almost impossible to even notice.Turning the light on and off sometimes requires a "double click" on the remote, other times, just one click.Confusing and hard to use.

Lastly, the remote is extremely problematic.The 20 foot advertised range is greatly overstated, as the remote only works from 3 - 5 feet away (you have to be directly under the fan for it to work).And even when standing right at the fan, the remote only works some of the time (and with a very noticable delay).

For the price (or at any price), this is an extremely low quality fan, with poor quality control from the factory.Best to avoid.

The Hole Pro X-230 is a well built tool that makes the task of cutting holes much simpler. If you are required to cut holes into drywall, you cannot live without this tool. It is also capable of cutting woods, plastics, and other materials.

This worked great with my puny 14.4v Dewalt drill. The plastic shield does an *excellent* job of containing dust, debris, and flying chunks. Anyone doing renovation work or a job where cleanup is a big issue, this is a must have tool. I cannot ever imagine going back to cutting holes with a drywall saw.

All of the parts are heavy duty and well built. The shield doesn't leave marks, the blades are strong, and the spinning motion is perfectly balanced. Do not waste your money with the cheaper imitations (~$50).

Because the saw blades are adjustable, this can literally replace a dozen hole saws of various sizes. The only reason to keep hole saws is for specialty applications such as cutting metal or tight locations. While the shield is removable, the "bar" that the blades attach to is a fixed length.

44" Concept II Ceiling Fan in Brushed Nickel and Silver Review

I bought this ceiling fan because it has such a low ceiling clearance and we live in a 1947 cottage with relatively low ceilings. I absolutely love it! It doesn't wobble (which is amazing, considering nothing in our house is even, especially not the ceiling), it is super quiet and it brings modern elegance to our living room. It was soooo easy to put together! I am already checking out all (!) the other ceiling fans in our house to see whether we can replace them with that product...(we live in the Southeast, so we have a lot of them....). One of my best purchases for the house, ever.

This is a cut to fit solution to a heat loss problem. Now that it's in place, I don't notice it. The supplied Velcro tape made no sense to me, as you would have part of it permanently attached to the shutter. It would look tacky. I went out and bought two roll of adhesive magnetic tape (less than $3.00 for both), attached the tape to the back of the insulation, and stuck the insulation up to the shutter for a tight, magnetic seal. When summer comes, the insultation goes away with no evidence of its existance.

Minka-Aire Fans F516-ORB 44" Concept I Contemporary Oil-Rubbed Bronze Ceiling Fan w/ Light & Remote Review

The best feature about this fan is its looks. It is minimalistic with a clean, stylish, sleek, and modern design. It also has a relatively small footprint. The 100W mini bulb produces adequate light for my 12" by 12" size bedroom. Unlike other fans that require the blades to be screwed on the base unit containing the motor, this fan allows for the blades to just slide into the base unit and lock into place - a great feature that cuts assembly time. I was however slightly disappointed that the color of the blades (with a slightly grayish touch) was not identical to that of the base unit (brown/oiled rubbed bronze). This is not a defect but rather the actual color shade scheme of this particular fan. Even on its highest setting, the amount of airflow (air displaced) is not that impressive and hence I strongly recommend that one go with the 52" inch version of this fan that costs only slightly more than the cost of this 44" model. This fan comes with a 3.5" & 6" down-rod but for my 9" ceiling, I would have preferred if the fan also came with an additional 9" or 12" down-rod. The remote is stylish and works flawlessly but I wish there was more space to snug in the remote-receiver in the fan (it is quite a hassle to try to squeeze the remote-receiver in the tight space). The fan has a slight premium in its price to essentially reflect the quality, good looks, and the fact that you get a fan with an integrated lighting in one unit.......with the convenience of the fan and the light being independently controlled by a remote. Bottom-line: If you like the looks of this fan go with the slightly larger 52" version of it as it provides more airflow at only a minimal extra cost.

Minka-Aire F577-ORB 52" Concept I Contemporary WET Outdoor Bronze Ceiling Fan w/ Light & Wall Ctrl Review

This fan lives under my patio, and while I liked the picture when I saw it online, I like it more in person. The color is a little more subtle, in a good way. It circulates a lot of air with no rocking, very minimal noise, and that's asking a lot for a Deep South summer. My concern when ordering it was that the lights might be too dim, but I realize that if I were using it outside at night, I wouldn't want terribly bright lights anyway, which has proven true. It's just right, and it fits my design aesthetic. Happiness.

Minka-Aire Fans F518-WH 44" Concept II Contemporary Flush Mount White Ceiling Fan w/ Light & Remote Review

Ordered this fan recently for a small bedroom. The instructions are very easy to follow and the installation is quick. It has a three fan speed motor and is very quiet running. The only set back was that the bulb died after two days of use and since its a halogen, replacement is $10 - $15 rated at 100w 1000hr. I notified the company, and they did send a replacement bulb. Please note that the bulb is rated at 100 watts but output with light cover is about 60 watts.
