I moved into a home with a single-switch bedroom fan and only two wires at the wall.A light kit was added to brighten up the room, but then I had a dilemma of having to pull the chains on the fan if I wanted to use the light independently of the fan.
This kit seemed to be the perfect option.Instead of the expensive or time-consuming option of running a third wire and second switch at the wall, I could just use this kit to swap the wall switch.All I needed to do was add a receiver module between the fan and the ceiling.If only I had known what was to come...
The wall switch was replaced in about 5 minutes.For the receiver module, the fan has to come down.Since the Hunter Original weighs 50 lbs. and can't support it's own weight, this means removing the light kit, separating every wire connection, removing the fan blades/canopy/shroud, and creating a suitable resting pad for the fan housing (I found couch pillows and a grocery bag to protect from oil worked great).
The receiver is designed to mount to a ceiling stud with the hardware provided.If mounting to a fan box, you'll probably need additional machine screws which aren't provided.It took several trips to the hardware store followed by bolt cutting to get the right length in my situation.Then back up goes everything, with the fan now making electrical connections to the receiver and the receiver connecting to the house AC.Did I mention it weighs 50 lbs.?An assistant is very helpful while making wire connections.
What the instructions don't reveal is that the receiver will lower the install height by about 2 inches.That's how far my shroud now hung below the ceiling, so I had to redo the entire installation, this time raising the fan box in the ceiling 2 inches.
Once installed, it does work as described.The directions stipulate setting the light kit to ON and the fan speed to HIGH beforehand.I found the HIGH speed on the fan caused all of the the fan speeds as operated from the wall switch to be too fast.I reduced the fan speed to MEDIUM on the pull chain, and the three fan speeds were returned to normal.
It should also be noted that I heard a hum after installing this kit.I initially suspected the kit, but then discovered the fan itself was low on oil (after only 4 years!), despite Hunter's claims that it should never need re-oiling.
I did not have any electrical interference issues, and live in a suburban neighborhood.There is a radio, TV, and computer nearby which also have no effect on the operation of this unit.
So the bottom line is that it works, but the effort required would be better spent paying an electrician to install a third wire and a second wall switch.

Light kit is fine and works well on Hunter fan.Surprised to find it uses Candelabra bulbs since the description on Amazon stated that it uses stardard bulbs.
I can not review this product,because it turns out it is not compatible with our Monte Carlo fan.I had to return it to Amazon.I am writing this so nobody else will have to do as I did!
I purchased this remote for a Minka Aire Fan and was the best addition to the Minka Aire experience.I do think it is a bit pricy (for just a remote) however it enhances the functionality of the Fan as my switch is quite far from my bed. I would have given it a 4.5 Star but there was no option to.I wish the remote was a little smaller and auto lite for night time use.You can't see or feel the buttons on the remote in the dark.Great product over all.
Had an electrician install the Bingham fan. Very little air movement, tried reverse, was even worse. Contacted Hunter who said, oh this doesn't have a good CFM(?) rating. Nice to know now. They told me to return it to the vendor and get a different one. But....trying to find out how this works because I now have to pay the electrician to remove it, and then install a new one. Does Amazon send a shipping label to return fan? Not sure. May never buy Hunter again.
Shakespeare, set the switches in the controller to match the switches in the fan then install batteries and you should be off to the races. Nothing else to do.
This controller did exactly as it was described and performed very well. I am an electrical contractor and this is the only control of it's type I could find and I was extremely satisfied with it.
Wireless fan speed control MUST be wired to an existing wall switch location. Don't be fooled by the incomplete description.
So here's the deal.I installed this switch for the fan I just installed, lots of work and was excited when it was done and worked.Not being an electrician and all of that.Several days later I would come into the room and lo and behold it would be on.Then I installed a light kit, imagine waking up at midnight and seeing the light come on all by its' lonesome.
It is very easy to use.It has 4 speed control.Super Low which just barely moves the air, low moves the air little more, medium and high.I am glad I bought it.
Westinghouse has made a great little remote here that works as promised. However the description on their own web site neglects to mention the need to install an electronic module inside the fan. They also don't state which fan models (In their own Line) this module will not fit. We bought a Ceiling hugger model and there was no room indide the fan for the module, it had to be located in the junction box above the fan.So while the fan control works great and as described there might be a bit of work involved wiring and installing the communications module.
I purchased the Harbor Breeze branded remote from Lowes (same exact product).It seems that Litex makes Habor Breeze products for this Lowes only brand.
This worked perfectly for an existing Hunter fan that I had.The remote had failed on it, so this was the only way I knew to replace it.This replacement remote came with an attachment to retrofit existing non-remote Hunter fans.When I opened the box, I cringed, hoping I wouldn't need it.In side the replacement remote there was a simple switch used to code the remote to the fan's control unit. It is similar to some cheap garage door openers.I played with the coding switch and quickly stumbled across the code to my present fan.I put all the rest of the equipment that came with the remote back in the box and into storage.I don't care for how this replacement remote sits on the room's light switch as it is easy to knock off, but I guess I shouldn't complain as it does work.
I've owned 2 of these and both went bad, one even came defective from the factory. I WOULD NOT BUY PRODUCTS FROM THIS COMPANY.
I purchased this remote control when I purchased my Hunter ceiling fan/light a few years ago.It worked fine for about 2 years.Then the light bulb blew and the remote was dead.I called Hunter and they told me what had happened was the sensing unit attached to the fan blew and that in turn blew the light bulb, and they would send me a new unit.I installed the new unit and the dimmer for the light did not work properly.It would just make the light flash on and off.I called again and they said it was a bad unit and they would send me another.This time the remote would work the fan and light OK but now they would also come on spontaneously at random times.For example, I might go to bed on cold winter night and wake up with the fan blowing on me or the light on.Or, I might go away on vacation and come home to find the light and/or the fan on. Another call to Hunter resulted in their telling me just to change the unit's frequency code and the problem would go away.Well, six code changes later the problem still persisted. In addition, if the electricity went out, even for a few seconds, when it came back on, the remote sensor would automatically turn on the light. I gave up on Hunter, purchased a different brand universal type wireless remote and so far (2 weeks) it has worked flawlessly.This is not new technology.My garage door opener which uses the same technology does not open and close spontaneously or default to an open garage door if the electricity goes out.This is a very poor and defective technical execution of a rather simple product.
