We broke the bank an bought this fan to top off the remodel of our outdoor porch. It is an absolute show-stopper. The materials and craftsmanship are terrific, as you would expect at this price. And even at its highest speeds it is amazingly quiet. All that said, it has one great drawback: it does little to actually move the air.
At this price we were expecting the Big Three to want to borrow it to power their wind tunnel tests. But from distances exceeding two feet, it's feels like a hand blow-dryer on low. I actually called the company to see if I was doing something wrong. They shrugged their shoulders (over the phone) as if they've heard this complaint quite a bit. On really hot days we pull out our $17 oscilating fan from Wal-Mart. It performs much better.
So this fan is truly the case study for form over function. If you need a great prop for a movie set this is the fan for you.If you actually intend to use the fan as a cooling device, you may be disappointed.
