Like other Vornado fans with their vortex grills, this one moves an immense amount of air for its size.I had the chance to compare its output side-by-side with another little fan I like, the Holmes Blizzard, and this Vornado (called the "Edge") blew the doors off the Blizzard!
I have not had the problem with a high-pitched whine that another customer alluded to, but my unit did develop an annoying rattle at high speed.
I found I could eliminate the rattle temporarily by tightening the screws on the back of the case.Unfortunately, the motor is so powerful at high speed that the screws would soon come loose again, and the rattle would resume.
So -- I installed locking washers under the screws on the back of the case (totalling sixty cents in parts), and I believe I have solved the rattle problem for good.
This is the reason I deducted one star -- customers shouldn't be doing Vornado's engineering for them!
Otherwise I use this fan both on the floor and on the shelf of a window too small for most box fans, and it excels at circulating great quantities of air.
